Is Voorheesville Blackbird Youth Lacrosse (VBYL) a travel team?
No, VBYL is a recreational program dedicated to fostering the growth of the sport in the greater Voorheesville/New Scotland area. The club will play against other recreational teams in the capital region, coming from as far south as Saugerties and as far north as Glens Falls.

Does Voorheesville Blackbird Youth Lacrosse have girls teams?
Yes! VBYL fields teams for both boys and girls youth lacrosse. 

What ages does the youth club support?
VBYL typically supports boys and girls teams at the following levels:

• Kindergarten through Second Grade (K-2)
• Third and Fourth Grade (3/4)
• Fifth and Sixth Grade (5/6)

Children in seventh grade and older are eligible to play in modified and varsity programs at the high school.

When does VBYL play?
Typically, the main recreational season is in the spring. Practices will start mid-April, and games will run in May and June. The club also supports pickup games during the offseason, and also may participate in Summer and Fall seasons if there is enough interest at a given age level.

What is USA Lacrosse? And do I need to be a member?
Being a member in good standing with USA Lacrosse gets you covered by insurance when you play lacrosse. All members of VBYL need to be in good standing with USA Lacrosse, it is the insurance that covers the team and gives us access to use fields owned by the town, the school district, and allows us to play against other clubs.

What is required for equipment? Where can I get equipment?
For boys, required equipment is:

• Helmet
• Mouth guard
• Shoulder Pads (NOCSAE 2022 compliant)
• Elbow Pads
• Gloves
• Lacrosse Stick

* If you are signing up to play, you have the option of renting the Helmet, Shoulder pads, Elbow Pads and Gloves from the club for $175, $125 of which is refundable after the season.

For girls, required equipment is:

• Goggles
• Mouth Guard
• Lacrosse Stick
